As of 1 Jan 2010 CAA has regulations in place regarding the development of a Safety Management System (SMS) at aviation companies. In 4 phases, over a period of 3 years, companies are expected to develop all policies, processes and documentation of their safety system, resulting in a comprehensive SMS.

CAA has based their requirements for SMS on the ICAO SMS framework. The 4 components of SMS as defined by ICAO are safety policy / objectives, risk management, safety assurance and safety promotion.

Of these 4 components the core operational activities of an SMS system are risk management and safety assurance. An example familiar to most pilots and staff is the filing of hazard and incident reports and the subsequent creation of corrective actions.

ARIS software assists safety staff with all 4 components, with a focus on the 2 core SMS activities. The ARIS Aviation Management system instantly provides your company with a fully functional SMS. Workload of the safety officer and his staff is greatly reduced by administering and tracking documents online. CEOs and Managers can get an overview of company safety at all times by accessing the latest reports and up to date statistics.
